Santos creates a special itinerary for visiting the Historic City Center on Saturdays

Home to an incalculable wealth of architectural, cultural and religious details that date back to the history of Brazil and has connections with different parts of the world, the Historic City Center of Santos is home to several attractions for tourists and Santos residents of all ages. To attract more and more people to experience these experiences, the City of Santos has just created the #SábadoNoCentro script.

The experience starts at 9 am at the Café Museum (Rua XV de Novembro, 95/ Street), with free admission on Saturdays, and is open until 6 pm. The place exalts the main Brazilian export product at the end of the 19th century. It is an experience of sensations, from the beginning of cultivation to the consolidation of coffee as one of the national symbols. Permanent and temporary exhibitions, works of art, antique furniture, a gift shop and a cafeteria, which serves the best beans – and even the most expensive and rare in the country – are some of its many attractions.

Then, at 11 am, the tip is to get to know the region through a walking tour monitored by a guide who knows everything about the region. The value of the activity is R$ 30 and the starting point is in front of the Pelé Museum (Largo Marquês de Monte Alegre, 1 - Valongo). PELÉ MUSEUM

Taking advantage of the fact that you are already at the Pelé Museum, tourists can go ahead and buy their ticket for the tourist tram line for R$ 7. The most recommended departure is at 4 pm so that the rest of the route can be done with ease.

After purchasing the ticket, there is a little time to stop for a snack or have lunch, when it is possible to enjoy the gastronomic variety of the region.

PALACE

Continuing with the authentic journey back in time, at 2 pm it is possible to carry out a guided tour of the José Bonifácio Palace (Mauá Square, s/nº - Centro), headquarters of the City Hall. The name of the place was chosen in honor of one of the most illustrious Santos citizens, the Patriarch of Independence. The building, built in the golden age of coffee, is one of the few public buildings in the State of São Paulo that maintains the original structure and much of the decoration preserved.

The visit shows the main lobby, the Esmeraldo Tarquínio Noble Room, the beautiful Princess Isabel Room and the Operational Control Center (CCO). The activity is free, but you must register, starting on Tuesday, at www.turismosantos.com.br/visitaaopalacio. And it is important to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the visit to guarantee the place.

In the last stage of the tour, the tourist returns to the Valongo Station to check out at 3:00 pm, the Feira Feito (Aircraft fair) em Santos – Valongo. It is open on weekends, from 11 am to 5 pm, and has several products of Paintings, Artscrafts, handicrafts and souvenirs from the City.

TRAM

With the tickets for the tram ride in hand, it's time to enjoy the ride that is the tourist mark of Santos, a true journey back in time through various points of historical and cultural interest. Trams from the 19th and 20th centuries, coming from different parts of the world, including Japan, travel through the Historic City Center, on a route monitored by a tour guide.

Finally, the home of the King of Football: the Pelé Museum. With free access, it's time to travel through the incredible trajectory of Edson Arantes do Nascimento with documents, shirts, boots, balls, decorations and trophies, among many other items from the personal collection of the 'Greatest athlete of the 20th century'.

Don’t miss the exhibition ‘O Inicio da Lenda (The beginning of the Legend) – Pelé under the eyes of photographer José Dias Herrera’, which shows, in huge panels and hundreds of digital photos, the first days of the King of the Football at Santos FC.

The itinerary, developed by the Secretariat of Entrepreneurship, Creative Economy and Tourism (Seectur), guarantees options for different ages. However, tourists should pay attention to the official channels of the City Hall and Seectur for possible changes in opening hours and ticket prices.
